To the leaders of
OpenAI and Anthropic
From: 14 people, and counting.
You are building the most powerful technology in human history.
In the next ten years, your systems could create more wealth than the world has ever seen. Not billions. Trillions. The whole human economy could grow many times over.
You know this. The market knows this. The world's eight billion people are starting to know it too.
So we are writing, while there is still time, to ask one thing: how will that wealth be shared?
Your AI was not built from nothing. It was trained on our writing, our code, our art, our music, our science, our history — the work of every generation before us. In any honest accounting, that belongs to all of humanity.
We are also clear about what is coming for work. If AI can do the work of doctors, teachers, drivers, and carers, then billions of people may soon have no clear way to earn a living. The wealth may be real. But if people are left behind, it will arrive as fear.
“When human dignity is threatened by new forms of dehumanisation, ours is the pressing duty to remain profoundly human.”— Pope Leo XIV
We are not asking you to slow down. We are not asking governments to take anything. We are asking for a fair deal, made now — before the new economy is locked in.
We ask for this
- 25% in trust. OpenAI and Anthropic each place 25% of their company into a global trust that can never be taken back.
- One share each.Every living person gets one equal share. It can't be sold, traded, inherited, or seized.
- A yearly dividend. Each year, a quarter of the earnings is turned into compute and split equally among everyone (eg. as a free subscription to a frontier model chat bot).
- It's yours. Use it, give it, or save it. For children, it is held safely until they grow up.
- One life, one share. When a life ends, the share ends. When a baby is born, a new share begins.
This is not welfare. It is ownership.
If AI is trained on humanity, humanity deserves equity. We are one humanity. No border, company, or government should stand between a person and their equal share.
One human. One share
Signed,
The people of the world — 14 and counting.
